Our teachers conduct research in the forest cover of the Greater Caucasus
The article, authored by the head of the Department of Ecology and Environment of the Western Caspian University, Associate Professor Aydin Yahyayev, as well as the teachers of the department, Adilagha Malikov and Shahbaz Shiraliyev, published in the journal ‘Applied Ecology and Environmental Research’, indexed in the Scopus database. The title of the article is “The Distribution Geography of Quercus Castaneifolia (C.A. Mey) in the Greater Caucasus of Azerbaijan, Its Condition and Regeneration”.
This study was led by Associate Professor Aydin Yahyayev, and the natural distribution of chestnut-leaved oak (Quercus castaneifolia C.A. Mey) in the forest ecosystems of the Greater Caucasus in various areas of Azerbaijan, its current state and restoration processes were investigated.
The research conducted in the Ismayilli region and important results obtained based on the generally accepted methodology. Thus, the main morphological and ecological characteristics of oak trees studied, a diagnostic assessment was carried out based on the quality indicators of the trees, and the number of seedlings of the species was determined based on the "success assessment" scale.
Researchers have implemented measures to stimulate the natural regeneration of this species in the Galinchag forest massif of Ismayilli district. As a result, it was determined that by the end of the fifth year the number of seedlings had almost doubled and this could make a significant contribution to the restoration of chestnut-leaved oak and the preservation of the biodiversity of forest ecosystems in the region.
